Phuket is a province comprising 39 surrounding islands and is a sub-range of the Tenasserim Hills (the Phuket Range). The island is full of granite and sedimentary rock hills, some with a height above 500 metres. The plains are utilised for rice, pineapple, rubber, palm oil plantations, and coconuts farming. The Khao Phra Thaeo National Park on the island is known for mangroves and tropical rainforests.
